Fred P. Tussey, Sr., 93, of Liberty passed away October 5, 2017 at Caroleton Manor where he had been a resident for the past five years.
The youngest of five children of Ben and Jaley Durham Tussey, Fred was born on June 12, 1924 in McKee, Kentucky.
Fred served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a paratrooper, mess cook, and MP before receiving his honorable discharge with the rank of Corporal.
On January 24, 1948, Fred married the former Sylvia Elliott in Winchester, Indiana. Mrs. Tussey survives.
Fred worked as a farm mechanic and John Deere Tractor salesman, retiring from Smith Implements after many years of service.
He was a member of Brownsville Methodist Church, Voiture 40 & 8, Past Grand Master of the Free & Accepted Masons Lodge #98 in New Fairfield, Indiana, and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #77 in Brookville.
Besides his wife of over 69 years, Sylvia Tussey, survivors include twelve children, Michael W. Tussey, Larry (Marilyn) Tussey, Angie Jayne, Fred P. Tussey, Jr., Rebecca (Robert) Stoff, John Tussey, Jenny (Tim) Denton, Adele Newhouse, Bette Jo (Brad) Taylor, Lori Tussey, Kenneth Tussey, James (Jennifer) Tussey; Fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a nephew, Randy Tussey.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gregory Lynn Tussey; grandson, Randall Lee Tussey; granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Taylor; and four brothers.
Graveside services with military honors provided by the Fayette County Veterans Council will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 9, 2017 at Sims Cemetery, New Fairfield, Indiana. Shelley Dodson will officiate.
