Frederick B. Lakin, Sr., 63, of Laurel, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, January 4, 2018, at Rush Memorial Hospital in Rushville, Indiana.
A son of the late Edward Blair Lakin, Jr. and Caroline Deluca Heath, Fred was born on July 16, 1954, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Fred served his country in the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged in 1976.
On June 28, 2003, Fred married the former Teresa Creek in Connersville. Mrs. Lakin survives.
Fred worked as a journeyman electrician for Visteon in Connersville for 14 years and Rexnord in Indianapolis for two years, retiring in 2015. He was a member of Buena Southern Missionary Baptist Church in Laurel and the Free & Accepted Masons. A devoted husband and father, Fred took pride in taking care of his family. In his leisure time, he enjoyed staying connected with family and friends on Facebook and watching television, especially Star Trek, Big Bang Theory, and the SyFy Channel.
Besides his wife of 14 years, Teresa Lakin, survivors include his children, Amanda (Mark) Hammons of Mississippi, Frederick Blair Lakin, Jr. of Laurel, Kerry Lola Lakin of Laurel, and Rinda Carolyn (Nathan) Rickles of Alabama; step-daughters, Amanda Rucker of Connersville, Erica Anderson of Bellview, Florida, and Alisa Holt of Connersville; grandchildren, Ethan Hammons, Abby Hammons, Steven Sayers, Harold Dillan Lakin, Adam Blair Lakin, Madilynn Robinson, Graycin Rickles, Tinsley Rickles, Denise Rickles, Thaddeus Jordan, Phoebe Jordan, Brookelyn Hudson, and Bailey Hudson; sisters, Barbara (Guy) Heath of St. Leon, Indiana, Robin (Vernon) Beal of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Lori Rowland of Connersville ; brothers, John (Sharon) Lakin and David Lakin, all of Brookville, Indiana; step-sisters, Melissa (Jason) Hart of Mason, Ohio, and Sue Faulkner of Westchester, Ohio.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2017, at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. Pastor Rob Edwards will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Brookville with military honors provided by the Bernard Hurst American Legion Post #77. Friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2017, at the funeral home.
