Jerry Leon Terrell, 75, of Connersville passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 7, 2017, at his home.
One of twelve children of Calvin Leon and Dora Milligan Terrell, Jerry was born at home in Greensburg, Indiana on June 15, 1942.
When he was nine months old, he moved to Rushville with his family. Jerry graduated Rushville High School with the class of 1960. As a teenager, he helped his older brother, Calvin, with his bakery. Jerry enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, served his country for two years while stationed in Vietnam; he was honorably discharged in 1968 with the rank of First Sergeant.
On September 17, 1974, Jerry married the former Mary Kathleen Stern. They were married in Winnemucca, Nevada while driving to Kathy’s hometown of Klamath Falls, Oregon. Mrs. Terrell survives.
For over 35 years, Jerry worked as a machinist at Roots Blower in Connersville, retiring in 2000. He also owned and operated Photography by Terrell for over two decades. Jerry was a member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church. A committed and dedicated advocate for veterans affairs in Fayette County, Jerry served as Post Commander for Post #1 and District Commander of the American Legion. He was also past Chef De Gare of the Forty and Eight #1040 and Past President of the Fayette County Veterans Council. Jerry also held memberships at AMVETS Post #11 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #571. A classic car enthusiast, he was awarded over 40 trophies at classic car shows for his classic 1956 Chevolet Bel Air.
Besides his wife of over 42 years, Mary Terrell, survivors include a daughter, Kara Beth Terrell and her husband, Ben MacCaby, of Avon, Indiana; a grandson, Jasper David Curtis; a brother, Calvin Leon Terrell Jr., of Greenfield, Indiana; sisters, Phyllis Pea of Greensburg, Sue Ann Warrick of Syracuse, Indiana, Carmen Caplinger and Pam Hager, both of Connersville; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Margaret Lee; a brother, John Terrell; four infant brothers and sisters.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. Jerry's daughter, Kara Terrell, will officiate. Burial with military honors provided by the Fayette County Veterans Council will follow in the Veterans Section at Union Cemetery.
