Joella J. (Ayers) Geis

February 25, 1925 ~ April 3, 2018 (age 93)

Joella J. Geis, 93, of Connersville passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 3, 2018, at Premier Health of Connersville.

One of four children of Clifford “Tom” and Vera Long Ayers, Joella was born on February 25, 1925, in Fayette County, Indiana.

Joella graduated from Connersville High School with the class of 1943 and took college courses in accounting and typing. 

On June 19, 1943, Joella married Robert W. Geis in Connersville.  Mr. Geis passed away on February 29, 2008.  Along with her husband, Joella started and operated Triangle Sheet Metal Company for over 50 years.

For many years, Joella taught living skills at Fate Center of Connersville and also filled in as a substitute teacher at St. Gabriel School and Fayette County Schools.  She was elected and served for twelve years as Connersville Township Trustee.  An active community supporter, Joella was involved with the Fayette County Democrat Party and also served as Precinct Committee Person for many years.  She was a member and past president of Fayette County Democratic Women’s Club and a member of the Connersville Bicentennial Committee.  Joella also fulfilled the role of President of the Amvets Post #11 Auxiliary as well as President of the Indiana Department of Amvets Auxiliary.

A faithful member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Joella served as a lector and was a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound.  She also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #861 Auxiliary, St. Ann’s Altar Society, and the Daughters of Isabella where she served a term as State Regent.

In her leisure time, Joella enjoyed sewing, especially creating clothing for her family.

Survivors include a daughter, Luanne (Dr. Alan) Williams of Blaine, Washington; a son, Thomas (Mary) Geis of Connersville; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Geis; eight grandchildren, Allison Williams (David) Seidner of Seattle Washington, Greg (Carrie) Williams of San Francisco, California, Lindsay Williams (Steven) Hovind of Seattle, Washington, Jennifer Geis (Dusty) Steele of Connersville, Gabriel Geis of Connersville, Jason (Mandi) Smith of Brookville, Shaun Hulette and David Carlton; thirteen great-grandchildren, Dominic, Marissa, W. Luke, and Elisha Steele, all of Connersville, Lilli Neal, Payton Carlton of Connersville, Robert Seidner and Madeline Hovind, both of Seattle, Washington, Gwenyth Williams of San Francisco, California, Cameron, Jake, Stevie, and Elliot Smith, all of Brookville, Indiana; a great-great-granddaughter, Aria Steele of Connersville; and a sister, Betty Ford of Oxford, Ohio.

Besides her husband of 64 years, Robert W. Geis, Joella was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Keith Geis who passed away on February 15, 2018; a grandson, Christopher Geis; two sisters, Shirley Traylor and Alice Williams, and three brother-in-laws, Dale Ford, Bob Traylor and Jim Williams.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Dustin Boehm at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery.  Recitation of the Rosary will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home with visitation following until 7:00 p.m.
