June (Daniels) Pflum

October 29, 1923 ~ March 5, 2018 (age 94)

June Daniels Pflum, 94, passed away on Monday afternoon, March 5, 2018, at her family farm.

The youngest of four children of Ben and Catherine “Katie” Daniels, June was born October 29, 1923, on a farm south of Milton, Indiana.

She was a graduate of Milton High School with the class of 1941 and St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in 1944.  She started her nursing career at Allison Industrial in Indianapolis as the plant nurse for one year then continued at Fayette Memorial Hospital from 1945 until her retirement in 1993. While working at the hospital, June also helped at local doctors’ offices and was a substitute school nurse for Fayette County School Corporation.  Following her retirement, she volunteered at Fayette Memorial in the Red Cross office weekly until becoming ill in November 2017.

June married Martin “Marty” Pflum, Jr. on September 28, 1946, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Cambridge City, Indiana.  She joined her husband at the Pflum Farm where she resided until her passing.  Mr. Pflum passed away on April 21, 1988.

June was well traveled, visiting all fifty states as well as Canada, Mexico, Central America, The Caribbean, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.  She enjoyed watching her grandchildren at their various activities and pontoon boating on Brookville Reservoir.  June never turned down a game of cards.

She was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, St. Ann Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, Nurse’s Club, several card clubs, and a long-time supporter of 4-H and the Fayette County Free Fair.

Survivors include her children, Daniel (Diane) Pflum, Mark O. (Paula) Pflum, David Pflum, Doug (Sue) Pflum, Charlotte (Nick) Dafler, all of Connersville, Beth (Doug) Ross of Milton, Myra (David) Day of Indianapolis, and Janet (David) Freeburg of Westcliffe, Colorado; a son-in-law, Tim (Kellie) O’Rourke; grandchildren, Julie (Michael) Johnson, Dustin Pflum, Jereme Pflum, Sarah (Kyle) O’Donnell, Seth (Kara) Pflum, Jared Pflum, Jordan Pflum, Clinton (Katherine) Pflum, Maggie Ross, Lynne (Ben) Houston, Pamela (Adam) Jones, Katie (Grant) Madinger, Audrey Ross (husband, Chris Isaacs), Kyle O’Rourke, Emily O’Rourke, Katlyn Freeburg, Scott Freeburg, Morgan Dafler, Abbie Dafler, and Paige Dafler; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

June was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Martin Pflum; her parents; children, Bradley Pflum and Kay Pflum O’Rourke; grandchildren, Kevin O’Rourke, Caleb Pflum, and Sean O’Rourke; a brother, Irvin “Bud” Daniels; sisters, Bernice (George) Pflum and Mildred “Sis” Daniels.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church.  Reverend Dustin Boehm will officiate.  Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery.  The Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m.
