Ralph E. Piper, 88, went home to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning, September 19, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at his home in rural Fayette County.
One of three children of Millard D. and Belva M. Foster Piper, Ralph was born in Falmouth, Indiana on May 24, 1929.
On March 23, 1985, Ralph married the former Wilma "Jean" Taylor in New Salem. Mrs. Piper survives.
Ralph resided in Rush County, Indiana for a number of years before moving to Fayette County. He worked in the maintenance department at Schnadig Corporation, Famous Recipe, and Millers Merry Manor for 50 years, retiring in 1997.
He was a member of Connersville Baptist Temple and in his leisure time enjoyed woodworking and camping. An avid racing fan, Ralph enjoyed NASCAR and was a midget car driver, having many victories throughout his career.
Besides his wife of over 32 years, Jean Piper, survivors include a son, Ralph Piper, Jr. of Indianapolis; a daughter, Barbara Thackery, of Greensburg, Indiana; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four step-children, Thomas D. (Cathleen) Gossett of Connersville, Brad (Tammy) Gossett of Connersville, Patty (John) Norris of Rushville, Jenny (Mike) Coon of Connersville; and a sister, Ruth (Richard) Lanham of Rushville.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Jamie Dyer; and a brother, Frederick M. Piper.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2017, at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. Reverend George Nester will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
