Reverend Darrel J. Hurst, 81, Martinsville, IN a former Connersville resident went home to be with the Lord Friday morning, August 4, 2017 at Indiana University Health Hospice in Bloomington, Indiana.
He was born September 28, 1935 in McKee, Kentucky, one of seven children of Walter and Dovie Powell Hurst. As a young man, Darrel drove coal trucks in Jackson County until moving to Connersville at the age of 27.
From 1964 until his retirement, he was employed at D & M.
An ordained minister, for many years, he was the Pastor of the Full Gospel Trinity Church in Connersville and later became the Pastor of the Full Gospel Church in Richmond, IN, along being a Chaplain at Reid Hospital.
On August 17, 2004, he was married in Jellico, TN to Carol Fay Frye. Mrs. Hurst survives.
Along with his wife, he was a member of the New Salem Church in Gosport, IN. In his leisure, he loved running, an activity that he enjoyed all of his adult life.
Survivors besides his wife, Carol Hurst, include three children. Patricia Liedeke, Dovie LeBoeuf and Hobart (Diane) Hurst, all of Connersville; two step children, Carman (Larry) Page, of Spencer, IN and John (Roxie) Bush, of Martinsville, IN; three grandchildren, Sasha Conner, Taiwan Metcalf, and Branden Rader; nine great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren; a sister, Freda Sams, of McKee, KY; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, a grandchild, Leisha Alexander; a step-son, Dale Bush; four brothers, Burgoin Hurst, Thomas Hurst, Denny Hurst and Earl Hurst; a sister, Ninnie Bowles.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM, Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home with Pastor Karen Smith and Pastor Jim Webb officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery.
