Richard "Dick" Jessie Babcock, 96, of Connersville went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, evening, September 20, 2017, at Caroleton Manor.
One of five sons of Jessie and Florence Tillotson Babcock, Dick was born on July 23, 1921, in Tylersville, New York.
On September 11, 1942, Dick married the former Mary Ruth Baker in Watertown, New York. Mrs. Babcock passed away on July 9, 1998.
In September of 1944, Dick enlisted in the United States Army and served under General George Patton in Central European Theater, Battle of the Bulge/Rhineland with the 405th Infantry Regiment, 102nd Division. He was honorable discharged in July of 1946 with the rank of Technical Sergeant.
On February 22, 2004, Dick married the former Mary Louise Overby in Arcadia, Florida. Following their marriage, they moved to Connersville for residence. Mrs. Babcock survives.
Dick was the manager of Agway Farm Co_op for 34 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons Lodge #712 in Collinsville, Illinois; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8158 in Dryden, New York; and Connersville Baptist Temple. In his leisure time, Dick enjoyed playing golf, carpentry work, and animals.
Survivors include his wife of thirteen years, Mary Louise Babcock; two daughters, Brenda Sue (Richard) Hollandback of Lake Alfred, Florida, Linda Sue (David) Ensign of Salisbury, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Sarah Ensign, Susan Jackson and Daniel Pierce; three great_grandchildren, Ainsley Jackson, Zachary Jackson, and T.J. Oseid; two stepchildren, Joyce (Larry) Harris of Connersville and Ken (Wendi) Overby of Natfield, Pennsylvania; four step-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clark Babcock of Watertown, New York and Elvin Babcock of Messina New York.
Besides his first wife of over 57 years, Mary Ruth Babcock, Dick was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Roger and Albert Babcock.
A memorial service will be conducted at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, September 29, 2017, at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. Dick's step_grandson, Reverend Doug Harris will officiate. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard and Fayette County Veterans Council at at the funeral home.
