Russell Sidell, Jr., 73, of Connersville passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning September 20, 2017, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas.

A lifelong resident of Connersville, he was born April 19, 1944, the son of Russell Howard and Jane Maude Tanksley Sidell.

On June 21, 1964, he was married in the Harrisburg Union Church to Janet Sue Frost of Connersville. Along with his wife since 1981, they owned and operated the Sportsman Trophy Shop of Connersville. For a number of years, he was employed at Val's Department Store.

Russ spent his life giving back to friends and neighbors in his Connersville community. He served two terms as Fayette County Commissioner and then from 2009 to 2016, he served as a Fayette County Councilman. He also served as the Concession Director of the Fayette County Free Fair, holding the position of President of the Fair Board from 1993 to 1996, then re-elected from 1998 to 2004, which included the 100th Anniversary Celebration in 2002. Russ was a Member of the Connersville Jaycees, receiving the JCI Senate Award, and served as President from 1980 to 1981. He also coached youth basketball and directed the youth T-ball league in Connersville for over 30 years. In addition, Russ was a member of the Connersville Lions Club.

Over the last two years of his life, Russ enjoyed spending his time in Branson, attending shows, visiting the lake and feeding the ducks, while watching the growth of Branson along its busy Highway 76.

Survivors include two children, Sommer Weisheit, of Branson, Missouri and Joey Sidell and wife, Lisa, of Everton; he is blessed with three grandchildren, Regan Weisheit, Kinley Sidell, and Jocie Sidell; a brother, Sammy Sidell; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Janet Sue Sidell; his parents, Russell Howard and Jane Maude Tanksley Sidell; and a brother, Jerry Sidell.
