Philip A. Bauer, 83, of Connersville, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 10, 2009 at his home. His death was due to natural causes.
He was born September 30, 1926 in Connersville, one of six children of Philip W. and Julia Ransbottom Bauer. A lifelong resident of Fayette County, he was a graduate of Saint Gabriel Catholic School.
A U.S. Veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, Co B, 188th Parachute Infantry, and was stationed in Japan following their surrender to Allied Forces. Honorably discharged in 1946, he returned to Fayette County.
Formerly employed at American Kitchens and Roots Blower Company, he retired in 1993 after working in the assembly department.
On May 19, 1956, he was married in Connersville to Edith T. Counceller. Mrs. Bauer died October 14, 1993.
Philip was a member of the Saint Gabriel Catholic Church, the American Legion, a life member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
An avid outdoorsman and history buff, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, gardening, golfing, reading, hiking and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He had been instructing his grandchildren in golf, trap shooting and archery.
Survivors include his four children: Linda Ann Kelley and husband, Dennis, of Indianapolis, Philip Edward Bauer and wife, Faith, and Sandra J. Hicks and husband, Mike, both of Connersville, and Douglas Anthony Bauer and companion, Theresa, of Cambridge City; 16 grandchildren: John, Brent and Conner Kelley, Tyler, Travis, Trent, Sarah and Samuel Repp, Chris Bauer and wife, Jayma,, Amanda Barrett and husband, Mike, Brooke, Terri, Rebekkah and Douglas Bauer, and Robert and Ashley Schmidt; five great-grandchildren: Alyssa Barrett, Brody, Bryce and Brennen Bauer and Landon Anthony Bauer; a brother: Frank Bauer of Bloomington, Indiana; two sisters: Catherine Heines and Joann Hendricks of Indianapolis; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Edith T. Bauer; his parents; two sisters: Margaret Doughty and Judy Pearson, and a son-in-law, Steve Repp.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Stanley J. Herber at 11 AM Friday, December 18, 2009 in Saint Gabriel Catholic Church. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery, with military rites provided by the Fayette County Veteran’s Council Honor Guard. Friends may call from 4 until 8 PM Thursday in Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:45 PM.
