William Odell Harris, 81, of Connersville died 10:45 AM Sunday, December 20, 2009 of heart failure at Heritage House of Connersville where he had been a resident since October of 2009.
He was born April 15, 1928, in Richmond, Indiana, one of eleven children of Frank “Curly” and Bessie Burton Harris and had attended Richmond Community Schools.
On October 20, 1951 he was married in Richmond to Laura Marshall of Richmond She died January 20, 1988.
For more than 30 years he was employed at Ford Electronics and Refrigeration in Connersville, retiring in 1992.
An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time boating at Brookville Reservoir.
Survivors include: his devoted soul mate of 27 years, Ruby Siler of Connersville, whom the family deeply loves and appreciates the love and affection that she showed to him and the family; his five children: Judy Lowe and husband, Hollis, of Cambridge City, Indiana, William Odell Harris Jr. and wife Robin, of Connersville, Paul Harris of Dublin, Indiana, Jerry Harris and wife Tina, of Milton, and Tammie Skiles and husband, James, of New Paris, Ohio; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Atkins of Fountain City, Indiana; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Mattie Creech and Jane Davis; and seven brothers: Carl Burton, Lester Harris, Robert Harris, Herbert Harris, Samuel Harris, Donald Harris and Richard Harris, who died in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home, with Reverend Chuck Gerrian officiating. Burial will be in Valley Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 12 Noon until 3 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
