William E. ”Bill” Henry, 65, of Connersville died 1:40 PM Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Heritage House of Connersville where he had been a resident since July of 2008.
He was born September 1, 1944 in Connersville, one of three children of Gene B. and Edith “Peggy” Taylor Henry.
Bill was a member of the first special education class in Fayette County and one of the first clients of the Fayland Adult Training Center, which later became Landmark Services. In addition to working through Landmark Services, he also worked at Hardee’s and Rax’s Restaurants.
He was a great sports fan and eager athlete. He was a competitor in the Special Olympics, where he won medals for bowling, he was especially proud of his shuffleboard game and was twice the Men’s Champion at Vista Harbor in Vero Beach, Florida, where he enjoyed spending the winter with his family. He followed the Connersville High School basketball teams, attending all of the home games for many years and at one time won the Connersville News Examiner’s “You Pick’ Em” Contest. Bill also enjoyed following the Cincinnati Reds, the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana University Basketball.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his step-mother, Mary Jane Henry, of Connersville, who raised him; his sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Bill Newquist of Connersville; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Jean Ann Reeve, who passed away July 11, 2009.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 Noon on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 in Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home by Pastor Martha Williams-Jordan, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit from 10 AM until the time of services on Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made in care of the funeral home to the Fayette Regional Foundation of the Fayette Regional Hospital.
