Larry Nelson Alexander, 72, of Connersville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 in Reid Hospital & Health Care Services, where he had been a patient since January 3, 2010.
He was born March 27, 1937 in Connersville, one of five children of Eulice Emmanuel and Margaret Katherine Olden Alexander.
A lifelong resident of Connersville, he graduated from Connersville High School, where he played Boy’s Varsity Basketball, Varsity Football and Boy’s Varsity Track. He received numerous awards for his athletic skills, including being named as an alternate on the State’s All Star Boy’s Basketball Team.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and upon completing his military service, he received an honorable discharge and returned to Connersville for residence.
He was employed as an assembler at the former Ford Electronics & Refrigeration and later for Design & Manufacturing in Connersville.
A member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church, he had been active in their Sunday School department and had been a lay member of the Baptist Training Union.
During his leisure he volunteered as a mentor to many children and was an avid sports fan.
Survivors include a daughter, Rosalind Diane Hurst of Connersville; a son, Terrell Nelson Alexander of Kentucky; two grandchildren,: Dae Nae Alexander of Connersville and Terrence Nelson Alexander of Kentucky; three great-grandson: Darius Rose, Damien Rose and Trevon Josiah Nelson Alexander; two sisters: Anita L. Owens of Ohio and Leesa Kim Alexander of Cambridge city, Indiana; two brothers: Eric Daryl Alexander and Bryan Keith Alexander, both of Connersville; and eight nieces and nephews; four great nieces and nephews; and two aunts and one uncle.
He was preceded in death by a son; Barry Kyle Alexander, who died September 8, 1977; and his parents.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM on Monday, January 11, 2010 in Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home, with Reverend Eugene Spicer, Chaplain of Fayette Regional Hospital and Reverend Richard Ware, Pastor of Higher Praise Worship Center, officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the Fayette County Veteran’s Council Honor Guard will be in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 AM until the time of services.
