Arlie Ray Reynolds, Sr., 65, of Connersville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, at 8:40 PM. January 14, 2010 at his residence. He had fought a long and courageous battle with cancer and was sustained through it all by his faith in God, his family and his friends.
He was born on March 5, 1944 in Independence, Michigan, the son of Arlie Allen Reynolds and Mary Alderson Reynolds.
He is survived by his wife, Janie Fuchs Reynolds and his most precious labs, “the boys”, ‘Boss’ and ‘Boo’. He is also survived by his eight children: Ray Reynolds Jr. of Columbus, Ohio, Debbie Nixon and husband, Jeff, of Losantville, Indiana, Scott Reynolds of Owensville, Kentucky, Mark Reynolds of New Castle, Indiana, Dottie Razor and husband, Shane, of Jeffersonville, Kentucky, Crystal Fray and husband, Mike, of Brookville, Indiana, Rachel Reynolds and Chad Reynolds, both of Prairieville, Louisiana; brothers and sisters: Dale Reynolds and wife, Lilly, and Garth Reynolds, all of New Castle, Indiana, Geneva Gibson and husband, Ellis of Kokomo, Indiana, Bill Reynolds and wife, Wanda, of Connersville, and Janny Best and husband, Joe, of Bradenton, Florida; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Douglas Charles Reynolds; his parents; a sister, Vicki Boger; a brother, Duke Reynolds; a sister-in-law, Nancy Reynolds, and a brother-in-law, Bobby Burns.
A member of the Connersville Baptist Temple, he served as a Church Trustee, played music in the worship services, worked in the bus ministry and the children’s AWANA program. Besides his commitment to his local church, Ray had a special ministry with his family, visiting area nursing homes, where they played music and sang for and with the residents.
During his leisure, Ray loved to cook and enjoyed spending time with his large family and many friends.
Ray was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged upon completing his military service.
As an adult, he earned his GED and was very proud of this accomplishment.
A professional musician for several years, he was an accomplished guitarist, in recent years he was a driver for LADD Transportation, delivering new recreational vehicles all over the United States. Since 2007, he has worked as the lead driver and trainer for Handy Van Medical Transportation and was instrumental in helping the newly formed company get established.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home, with Pastor Randall Collins of Connersville Baptist Temple, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City, Indiana. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 PM on Monday.
Memorial contributions may be made in care of the funeral home to the “God Is Able” Fund of the Connersville Baptist Temple.
