Jasper W. Cantrell, 84, of Liberty, IN, passed away Sunday morning January 17, 2010 at Lincoln Center where he had been a resident for a week. He had been in failing health for several months.
He was born January 30, 1925 in Ashcamp KY, one of four children of Albert and Odessa
Mullins Cantrell.
On October 18, 1948, he was married in Elkhorn City, KY to Pearline Mullins. Mrs. Cantrell died on March 31, 2005.
A veteran of the U. S. Navy, he served during World War II with the SeeBees in the Pacific Theatre and was honorably discharged in 1946. He had been a resident of Liberty since 1967.
He had been employed by Mosey Manufacturing in Richmond, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of the Liberty Church of Christ, where he taught Bible study, and had been a member of the American Legion at Brookville. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan.
Survivors include a daughter, Rena F. Bryant and companion, Todd Wilson, a son, Randy Cantrell and companion, Paula Stewart; a daughter-in-law, Pam Cantrell, all of Liberty; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Leonard Cantrell of South Carolina; and several nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Rhonda Kurtz, a son, Donald Cantrell, a granddaughter, Barbara Bryant, a grandson, Andrew J. Cantrell, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be conducted by Brother Donald Chapman at 1 PM Thursday, January 21, 2010 in Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home where friends may call from 6 until 8 PM on Wednesday. Burial with military rites conducted by the Liberty American Legion will be in West Point Cemetery in Liberty.
