Obituary:
James Neil Freeman, 79, of Connersville, died 8:30 PM Thursday, February 11, 2010 in Reid Hospital & Health Care Services in Richmond, where he had been a patient in the Intensive Care Unit. James had been fighting a courageous battle with cancer for several months. He was born February 20, 1930 in Homer, Indiana , the son of Fred William and Marie Krammas Freeman. He moved to Connersville with his family at the age of four and attended Connersville Schools, graduating from the Connersville High School. On April 11, 1953, he was married in Connersville to Wanda Lee White. In the following years they had four sons, Nick, Jim, Scott and Billy and enjoyed raising their family. James and Wanda were experiencing their semi-retirement years with grandchildren and great-grandchildren until Wanda’s death on June 15, 2001. James was formerly employed at Design & Manufacturing in Connersville and their successor, White’s Consolidated Industries and following his retirement, worked at Jim’s Auto Body in Connersville, first as a mechanic and later assisting in customer service. He was a member of the East Side United Methodist Church and a longstanding member of the Moose Lodge and Eagle Lodge. James had also been a member of the Fayette County Civil Defense Team and had served as their director for several years. During his leisure he enjoyed working on cars, camping, fishing, caring for the family pet Dalmatian, “Captain”, and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his four sons: Warren “Nick” Freeman and wife, Diana, James “Jim” Freeman and wife Robin, and William “Billy” Dale Freeman, all of Connersville; Scott Dean Freeman of Lake Santee, Indiana, three grandchildren: Nicholas Lee Freeman and wife, Jamie, Natalie Ann Garrison and husband, Bill and Anthony Lee Freeman, all of Connersville; two step-grandchildren: Scott Miers and Katlyn Garrison of Connersville; five great granddaughters: Karmen Shea Freeman, Savannah Marie Freeman and Alexander Lee Freeman, Morgan LeeAnn Garrison and Harrison James Freeman all of Connersville; one brother: John Freeman and wife, Becky, of Troy, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his wife of 48 years, Wanda Lee Freeman, he is preceded in death by a grandson, James Lee Freeman, three brothers: Fred William “Bill” Freeman, Robert “Bobby” Freeman and George Freeman; and his parents. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, February 16, 2010 in Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home, with Pastor Fuzzy Lake of the Christ Jesus Community Church and Pastor Malcolm Greene of the East Side United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 - 8 PM on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the funeral home to the Fayette County Cancer Fund or to the Fayette County Diabetes Association.
