Marion Gardiner

Obituary:
Marion Gardiner, 96, of Connersville passed away at 12:05 AM Monday, February 15, 2010 at Lincoln Center West where she had been a resident since 2003. She was born September 17, 1913 in Milroy, Indiana, the eldest of five children of William C. and Nina Power Austen. She was a graduate of Milroy High School and in 1938, she graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. In August 1938, she became employed as a Registered Nurse at Fayette Memorial Hospital, where she worked in various assignments, retiring in 1979. On September 21, 1940, she married Frank G. Gardiner of Connersville. Mr. Gardiner died May 9, 1974. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church where she served as church treasurer for 14 years. Other memberships included the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #346; Past President of Fayette Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; a member of the R.N. Club of Fayette County, Friends of the Fayette County Public Library, and the Historic Connersville Incorporated. Survivors include two children, Edwin Gardiner and wife, Bonnie D. and Marianne Dice and husband, Robert T. all of Connersville; three grandchildren, Coleen K. Kramer and husband, Christian, of Novi, Michigan, Shannon E. Gardiner of Indianapolis and Gail J. Gardiner a student at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana; a sister, Maude Reinhard of Greensburg, Indiana; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by twin brothers, Howard and Herman Austen; and a sister, Edith Walls. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Trinity Episcopal Church, with The Reverend Dr. Keith Dobyns officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery. Friends may call at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home from 5-7 PM on Wednesday. The Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #346 will conduct a Memorial Service at 7 PM that evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the funeral home to the Fayette Regional Hospital Auxiliary.
