It is with great sadness that the family of Grover C. Denham, 91, of Connersville wishes to announce his peaceful passing on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at Caroleton Manor.
One of seven children of Henry R. and Maggie Ferguson Denham, Grover was born on November 4, 1926, in Annville, Kentucky. In 1945, Grover enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, serving his country during World War II with the 621st Air Material Squadron, attaining the rank of Corporal. While on leave, he married the love of his life, the former Edith Jones in Gas City, Indiana and they were married for over 70 years. Mrs. Edith Jones Denham survives.
Together, they have made Connersville their home since 1972. Grover was employed as a millwright at General Motors in Hamilton, Ohio where he was a model employee, having perfect attendance during his 38 years of service. While at GM, Grover became a journeyman and served as a UAW committeeman. He retired from GM in 1987.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Grover was always involved with his family. Fond memories were formed of his teaching Sunday School at Metamora Baptist Church in the 1950’s or when he would take the children picnicking on blankets in the park while listening to Cincinnati Reds baseball broadcast on the car’s AM radio. Grover helped facilitate the Boy Scouts in Metamora while his children were young. He always looked forward to taking his wife and children to go back home to visit family in Kentucky. Always fun loving, Grover would plan and carry out the fireworks display for the family every year on the 4th of July.
An avid hunter, Grover was a member and past president of the Everton Conservation Club where he won many hunting competitions. His other passions were riding his motorcycle and watching Purdue beat IU. Always of service to others, Grover helped establish the Metamora Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Chief for several years. Grover was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons Warren Lodge #15 and was bestowed the honor of Kentucky Colonel.
Besides his wife of over 70 years, Edith Denham, Grover leaves behind to check the oil in the car, his children, Larry G. (Bonnie) Denham of Brookville, Indiana, Jeanette Lakes of Connersville, Ronald C. (Donna) Denham of North Carolina, Sandy (Roland) Cowan of Arizona, Beverley (Jack) Daniels of Connersville, Wayne (Beth) Denham of Connersville, and Patty (Steve) Burch of Brookville; twenty grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a brother, James (Jewel) Denham of Bond, Kentucky; sisters, Wanda Shelton of Barbersville, Kentucky and Ruby Jackson of Bond, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
