JoAnn Fields, 83, of Connersville passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Fayette Regional Health Systems surrounded by her family and friends. JoAnn was born to Joseph and Charlene Fitzgerald on May 29, 1935, in Washington, Indiana. She was the oldest of five children. She moved to Connersville as a child and graduated from Connersville High School in 1953. JoAnn worked for GTE for four years and then became the beloved secretary at Alquina Elementary School where she worked for 35 ½ years before retiring in 2000.
On December 24, 1955, she married John C. “Sonny” Fields while he was home on leave from the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas. The couple built a home on the family farm and had two children, Kimberly Ann, and Timothy Wayne.
JoAnn was an active member of the Alquina community, a member of the Alquina United Methodist Church, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Every year at Christmas, JoAnn and lifelong friend, Diane Smith, enjoyed taking poinsettias to patients in the area nursing homes. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, John “Sonny”; daughter, Kim Duffy and husband, John; son Tim Fields; grandchildren- Katie Swininger and husband, Ryan; Elizabeth Sadler and husband, Adam; Allison Fields and fiancé Duncan Barr; Nathaniel Fields and wife Bri; and Olivia Fields; great-grandchildren- Luke, Isabelle, and Riley Swininger; Jett and Harper Sadler; Oliver and Lexi Barr; her sister Vickie Siler and husband, Doug; and many nieces and nephews. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Charlene Fitzgerald; her brothers Marty and Don Fitzgerald; an infant sister Marsha Kay Fitzgerald; and her grandson, Nicholas Fields.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, from 4-8 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. Services for JoAnn will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home with Pastor Rob Judd officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Lyonsville. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of JoAnn to the Alquina Blue Arrow Park or to the Alquina United Methodist Church.
