Juanita Frances (Nolty) Hornsby

January 2, 1931 ~ January 25, 2018 (age 87)

Juanita Frances Nolty Hornsby, 87, of Everton, assumed the upward call surrounded by her loving family on Thursday morning, January 25, 2018, at her home.  She went to live in the eternal presence of Jesus following a courageous battle with cancer for the last five months.

She was born on January 2, 1931, on Grandpa and Grandma Cummins farm and home in Metamora, Indiana.

She was the oldest of three children belonging to William Nolty and Iselma Cummins Nolty.

She attended grade school through Junior High at Laurel Elementary and High School. Her senior year, Juanita attended and graduated from God’s Bible School High School in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1949.

On October 21, 1951, Juanita married Gale Hornsby in Laurel, Indiana, her childhood friend whom she fought with on the school bus and was always on the end of the whipper-snapper line. Together they lived in Laurel, Indiana for fifteen years, later moving to Everton, Indiana where they resided for the next fifty-two years.  Mr. Hornsby passed away on November 29, 2009.

During this time, Juanita enrolled at Indiana University East in Richmond for two years, transferring to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio graduating in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Education.

She taught school at St. Michael Elementary School in Brookville, Indiana, Children’s Services for Landmark in Connersville, Indiana, and concluding her teaching career as a kindergarten teacher at St. Gabriel School in Connersville, Indiana for six years.

Juanita is a member of Grand Avenue Methodist Church. She was always very active in church work throughout her life.  She was a true witness and prayer warrior.  She taught various ages of Sunday School through her life beginning at Laurel Church of the Nazarene and later Gortner Memorial Church of the Nazarene and attended Park Place Church of God in Connersville for twenty years.

In her leisure, she enjoyed working in her yard and with her flowers.  She was an avid reader.  She loved books, especially the Bible.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Juanita served as a board member of Head Start and the Fayette County Senior Center.  She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

Survivors include three children, Douglas Hornsby and wife, DiAnna of Everton, David Hornsby of Everton and Darla Henley and husband, David of Hagerstown, Indiana; four grandchildren, Derek Hornsby and wife, Julia of Hagerstown, Indiana, Devin Hornsby and wife, Lindsay of Connersville, Madeline and Jacob Henley both of Hagerstown; two great-grandchildren, Macie and Rylie Hornsby; a brother, William Nolty of Brookville; a sister, Mildred Studt of Brookville; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her husband of 58 years, Gale Hornsby, Juanita is preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Grand Avenue Methodist Church, 1943 N Grand Ave, Connersville, Indiana.  Pastor Kara Bussabarger will officiate.  Burial will follow at Everton Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home.
