Melvin "Bud" HaysNovember 15, 1927 ~ November 11, 2017 (age 89)
Melvin "Bud" L. Hays, 89, of Connersville passed away late Saturday evening, November 11, 2017, at Fayette Regional Health System.
He was born November 15, 1927, in Vicksburg, Indiana, the son of James Hobart and Artmisse Price Hays.
Bud served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, receiving his honorable discharge in 1947.
On April 17, 1954, he was married in Vicksburg, Indiana to the former Elsie Orman, who survives.
For over 44 years, he was employed at Philco-Ford and its successors, retiring in 1991.
Bud was a member of the Everton Southern Baptist Church and in his leisure enjoyed spending time with his family, working on crossword puzzles, reading, and was a fan of Purdue Basketball.
Bud’s proudest achievement was his family, all of whom he loved deeply. He’d be happy to listen to his children and grandchildren share stories for hours on end, grin permanently spread across his face. Though he was often content to simply sit back and observe, he had a searing wit that could leave people doubled over with laughter.
As much as he loved his family, he was loved just as fiercely in return. His gentle spirit was the backdrop of every gathering, and his warm presence, though different now, will always be felt when his family comes together.
Besides Elsie Hays, his wife of 63 years, survivors include two children, Brad (Sheril) Hays, of Jasonville, Indiana and Amy (Stephen) Drew, of Englewood, Ohio; six grandchildren, Rachel Hays, April (Ryan) Neff, Nikki (Bob) Parish, Krissy LeMal, Anna Drew and Elly Drew; six great-grandchildren, Conor, Aiden, Dalton, Jaden, Kayla and Gabe; three brothers, Tim (Patty) Hays, Avery (Sharon) Hays and Jim Hays. He is blessed with a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bud is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Violet Greenburg.
