Willie Murray, 82, of Connersville, passed away Saturday evening, March 10, 2018, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home where he had been a resident for the past year.
The son of Harvey and Manota Houston Murray, Willie was born in Clay County, Kentucky on April 26, 1935.
Willie moved to Indiana in the mid-1960’s where he met the former Diana L. Whitaker. They were married in Oxford, Ohio in April of 1970 and made Connersville their home. Mrs. Murray survives.
For several years, Willie worked for John Childers and John Bunzendahl and was also self-employed in the construction field. He was proud of his work in Connersville, especially the emergency unit at Fayette Regional Health, Miller Funeral Home, the brickwork around Alexander Law Office, and the construction of East Side Pizza King and Penny’s Restaurant.
Always friendly, Willie was loved by many and never knew a stranger. Over the last 45 years, many neighborhood children spent time in his home and call him, “Papa.” An avid outdoorsman, Willie enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, boating, gardening, growing flowers, and spending time with his family.
